Michael Untermeyer – Attorney

Michael Untermeyer currently is an attorney in private practice. He has fifteen years experience as a prosecutor in Philadelphia, including Special Counsel to the Office of Inspector General, Deputy and Senior Deputy Attorney General and as an Assistant District Attorney. He also has four years experience as a Hearing Examiner for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

In the Attorney General’s Office, he headed up the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section of the Philadelphia Regional Office of the Drug Law Division conducting financial investigations and prosecutions of major narcotics dealers and organizations. In this position, he supervised state narcotics agents, financial agents and Pennsylvania State Troopers assigned to Philadelphia to conduct long term narcotics investigations. Michael became a statewide expert on money laundering crimes. He was responsible for training State Narcotics Agents, Pennsylvania State Troopers, Prosecutors and Police Officers in detecting, understanding and investigating money laundering crimes and prosecuting violations of money laundering statutes. In forfeiture cases and over the term of his service, he was responsible for bringing in over $8,500,000.00 from individuals and organizations involved in drug trafficking.

Prior to working in Philadelphia, he worked as a trial attorney in the New York City Law Department, where he defended police, fire and municipal agencies in personal injury and property damage claims brought against the City. He was also a staff attorney and Director of Marketing for the Marino Bar Review Course, where he was responsible for marketing and selling Bar Review Courses to law students across the country for the New York Bar exam; contract and lease documentation and negotiations, supervising a staff of sixty-five part-time student sales representatives, preparing, creating and distributing marketing materials.

Michael started his career in public service by driving an ambulance for EMS in New York City when he was 18 years old. While growing up in New York, he started earning money shining shoes at age 11, followed by a paper route at age 14.

Michael has been involved in a range of community matters. He serves as a Judge Pro Tem in Philadelphia’s Mortgage Foreclosure Rescue Effort, is a volunteer for the American Red Cross, where he served as a volunteer in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, he engages in pro bono legal work for several organizations, and he chairs the South Street Headhouse Special Services District located in Society Hill and Queen Village.

For the past 15 years Michael has been in private practice where he and he has concentrated in the areas of real estate and business law and civil and personal injury lawsuits. Michael takes the time and effort to know and understand his clients in order that he may give them effective, focused and practical counsel.
